Saskatoon Mortgage Broker Shawna MacDonald highlights the Saskatchewan Secondary Suite Incentive (SSI) Grant Program

As Saskatchewan is growing at it’s fastest pace in more than a century and it requires additional housing.   You can contribute to providing more rental housing in your community, while investing in your property by adding a Secondary Suite.

A secondary suite can help pay a mortgage, or provide a home for aging parents, adult children or other family members. The grant has been designed, with flexibility in mind, to improve housing affordability and increase the availability of rental units in our communities, while also generating supplementary income for homeowners.

The SSI program grants up to 35% of the cost to build a new secondary suite at an owner’s primary residence, to a maximum of $35,000.  Renovations to existing suites or a primary residence do not apply.

The qualifying property must include a full kitchen and full bathroom and meet all national, provincial and municipal bylaws, codes and standards.  Eligible costs are those incurred between April 1, 2023 to March 31, 2026.
